The Southeast of the Balearic island of Mallorca, along the natural beach of Es Trenc, boasts the ideal conditions for the creation of a top quality natural product. The water is crystal clear, a gentle breeze blows throughout the summer months landwards towards Es Trenc, a place with a longstanding tradition of sea salt harvesting.
All these conditions help to ensure that each grain of salt contains the aromas of the Mediterranean; each crystal carried within the healing power of seawater.
Flor de Sal is the purest and most precious form of salt. Very specific meteorological conditions are required for this mineral-rich aromatic salt to crystallise on the surface of the salt flats: a lot of sunshine, a gentle breeze and low air humidity. A fine layer of flower-shaped crystals thus forms, which is harvested with rakes in the longstanding traditional way.
Contrary to other common sea salts, nothing is added or removed from Flor de Sal d’Es Trenc during the entire process. It is harvested by hand from the surface of the salt flats and slowly dried under the Majorcan sun. After drying, the salt is taken to a small plant where it is blended with Mediterranean herbs, spices, roses or black olives, subsequently packaged and send to gourmet stores and restaurants all over the world.
